THE BLACK SHEEP We are the younger siblings and he takes whatever he likes His arrows penetrate the strictness in the belly with hardened black hands Delicious fruits from the sun produced with insignificance The Ferocious one marches on And we still light up his wick Oh the outcry, it’s the actions of the black sheep Oh the outcry, God forgives those who condemn us He leaves swift footprints when he hunts foreign cultures arrogant down to the bone that wastes what he appreciates He serves his great disaffection and disguises it in the language He barters his dreams in a voice Loud and clear that life wanes Oh the outcry, it’s the actions of the black sheep Oh the outcry, God forgives those who condemn us

No Cae Mal 04:52
IT DOESN'T HURT Crossing through the mountains path on foot I noticed just how fragile the skin is The lights shine bright from the valley, occupied by its inhabitants, they’re delighted and they smile, smile Others cry for their luck, that does not change Hoping that death does not bring with it White dreams that conjures up a thousand frowns In the road of the ownerless faces It doesn't hurt, every once in awhile It doesn’t hurt to laugh out loud The years collect a thousand memories While the dust covers all desires Dreamy eyes begin to sink into sleep With the laughter of the old Bohemians and they smile, smile It doesn't hurt, every once in awhile It doesn’t hurt to laugh out loud

THE PLAINS They come from the plains, from another century, and another sun measured in their pace, secret origins, and without a script Here come the four voices, masters of the elements Bringing one by one the secrets of the universe Plains - land of my love Plains - free as air i am Plains - like water i roam Plains - Fire of passion Witnesses tell, that they’re a rainbow without its colors They harden the entrails of the wise and confused Here come the four voices, masters of the elements Bringing one by one the secrets of the universe Plains - land of my love Plains - free as air i am Plains - like water i roam Plains - Fire of passion

Gaitan 04:43
They all scream in pain Blood flows on 7th Ave They all scream from thirst Fury squeezes all that’s left of their faith Today a hero fell To the abiding laws It was three bullets before lunch Sons of country says the general Don’t be scared it’s time to take arms And enter the century of darkness

Of The Desert With fear on a cold face, the sun comes out and with the new day It brings with it the possibility Of leaving the nightmares behind, to reach a dream while awake and to walk with my head held high Juice, bread and Holy Marys, mothers climb up with their young To the truck and never look behind Words are overdone, the horizon offers its sole and towards the desert we walk And there is no resting from the intense sun There are 3 water bottles, and ham sandwiches The book bag almost empty, my mother’s food and the rosary she gave me And I’m ready to cross, yes i’m ready to cross Because i’m ready to cross, and my new life to start. Passing hours, passing days, passing hunger and cold nights, Passing but they cannot cross Words are overdone The desert comes to claim its mortal entry fee And there is no resting from the intense sun Cut up lips, dry with a taste of pain Hope that someone finds this written song So they can tell my folks through what paths I have been And now i’m ready to dream, and I’m ready to dream Because i’m ready to dream, about what could have been but was not.

AT GRANDMA’S HOUSE Between an old port and a slow street In a house of cane with dirt and plants There lives a grandma with her beloved Sycamore That gives shade to a worn-out heart She lets loose at the crack of dawn She wants to be back before lunch With a single 40 watt bulb She lights up the soul of her neighborhood At Grandma’s House They’re gathered in her nest - oh oh oh Always with the door wide open They’re gathered in her nest - oh oh oh When everyone marches out and she’s all alone With a feverish forehead and a creaky back From her bed, jubilantly she relives the hours While her little house deteriorates

The Cries of a Condemned Man Good morning, you poor devil Could you not sleep well last night Today's the day, it's the hour Do you have anything to say? All the guests bear witness For better or for worse Like moths to a lightbulb They cannot resist the bread Eye and tooth, today they're due and they're gone My brothers, I implore you - I have told you the truth My brothers, I cry before you - have a little pity And if in your eyes you will find, the justice that calms the peace Eye and tooth, today they're due and they're gone Oh Jury! How much do you charge? For the popular stance Neither the blind nor the wise Still believe in the truth Eye and tooth, today they're due and they're gone My brothers, I implore you - I have told you the truth My brothers, I cry before you - have a little pity And if in your eyes you will find, the justice that calms the peace Eye and tooth, today they're due and they're gone Eye and tooth, today they're due and they're gone

about

The album continues the journey of Cuñao, from the solo project of Julio Montero, an Ecuadorian raised in New York City, to the six-piece group that they have become, an acoustic project influenced by the stillness of the desert surrounding Los Angeles, as well as the nueva canción movement but one also willing to feature cumbia rhythms, textures from Africa and the heft of rock.
